Polished Rock Specimens

PAGE 1

Many of these are rocks that I have cut for myself, most are agate, jasper, petrified wood, and miscellenous materials from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. None of the photos are enhanced - indeed, the photos don't do these proper justice. They are all have as high a polish as is possible have no visible scratches. I am extremely picky about that. Many of these are rare types that you simply aren't going to find for sale anywhere else. Slabs are noted, otherwise these are rough pieces with one side cut and polished.
All pieces will be sent Parcel Post (under $10) or flat rate priority mail ($10 - $24), depending on weight, whichever is less unless you specify the shipping method. The majority will be priority mail parcel post or padded flat rate envelope ($10).

If you've recently visited this page, be aware that your browser may have cached the images and although all browsers are supposed to catch new images and reload them, sometimes they don't. So hit the refresh button below just in case to make sure you have the latest pics.
There's a simple fix for Firefox:
Type "about:config" in the website address box. This should load the Firefox config settings in the window for editing. You may see a warning message stating, "This might void your warranty!" (which is an in-joke, they don't have one), click on it to load the settings. Then search for the "browser.cache.check_doc_frequency" key and change it to "1".
For those of you who are looking for something specific in my for sale pages, such as when I list new items, I might have a solution for you. You may want to try this: https://www.changedetection.com, I think all you do is sign up and enter the address of the page, for example if you are looking for equipment enter http://orerockon.com/equipment_for_sale.html, and they should send you an email when I add something. BUT, it probably will send you a notice when I change one letter of one sentence on the page, so you might get annoyed by it at some point. It's a great way to track when I list new polished items, since I typically don't change anything until something sells and/or I add items, and equipment, which I never change unless I add new pieces or change the status to "sold" as they sell.

Slab 01 Petrified Wood, Escalante, Utah 4 1/2", very heavy end slice. Awesome colors for any petrified wood! The world famous Escalante Petrified Forest was open to the public for decades, then it was put in a national monument. So no more is coming out. I acquired this from the person who dug it with his father 40+ years ago. I have one huge piece from him that's waiting for a week of hot weather so I can contour polish it :)

Slab 02

Rocky Butte Picture Jasper, OR

5" thick, this is old stock, extremely rare, completely different from the newer material. Heck yeah I'm keeping the other piece!

$20.00

NEW
Slab 03 Turritella "agate"
Wamsutter, Wyoming
4 3/4" big, heavy, thick piece. This one is worth slabbing to see what pops up. This rock is fossil snails buried in mud that then silicified. It's not really agate (it's opaque, therefore it's jasper, and the snails are't really Turritella, they're Elimnia).
$19.00
NEW
Slab 04 Lily Pad Too jasper, OR 6 1/4" Great big chunk. I found this near the Lily Pad jasper area so I got to name it :)

Slab 06 Marston Jasper, Ashwood OR

7 1/2" huge slice. You won't find a slab this big for this price. The pit is completely mined out, I was there the day the rancher gave up and filled it in :(

$25.00

YES
Slab 07 Gold Sheen obsidian, Glass Buttes OR 6 1/4" piece, there isn't a ton of sheen in it but what there is (the left side) is really bright.

$14.00

NEW
Slab 08 Piute Jasper, OR 3 3/4" piece. This is rare and nearly forgotten jasper/agate, it was found in a small valley in a dry, inhospitable desert in far southern Oregon. It was claimed and mined for a few years then became almost forgotten until I located it. This is from the original mine, probably abandoned around 1975.

$10.00

Slab 09 "Teredo wood", central Oregon coast 6" piece. I found this on a beach walk at Coos Bay, there is quite a bit of it there. It's called Teredo wood because it has bene bored by shipworms (Teredo is the scientific name) and very little of the original wood remains. It takes a matte polish from all the carbon in it. You can see the filled in worm tunnels and even a few shells (the white bits).

$13.00

NEW
Slab 10 Petrified Wood, Escalante, Utah 3", thick slice. 3 1/2", 1 1/4" very thick slice. Awesome colors for any petrified wood and the back is fine sanded so it just needs a polisher if you want both sides polished. The world famous Escalante Petrified Forest was open to the public for decades, then it was put in a national monument. So no more is coming out. I acquired this from the person who dug it with his father 40+ years ago.

$12.00

NEW
Slab 11 Hampton Buttes limb cast, OR 7 1/4" BIG end slice, this is as big a piece as I can polish with my machines. I have had this 20 pound piece in my shop for decades. I dug it in the 90s at the well known limb cast area. A limb cast is where a blazing hot pyroclastic ash volcanic flow (exactly what happened at Mt. St. Helens) incinerates a piece of wood but the cavity that was left perfectly mirrors the wood. Then the wood is replaced by jasper or agate. But it looks like this piece retained at least some of the original wood. Green wood is very rare but fairly abundant at this location.

$22.00

NEW
Slab 12 Marston Jasper, Ashwood OR

3 3/4" piece, lots of red with some tan and white spots. The owner of the quarry passed away and no more is coming out. This is one of the last pieces I have.

$11.00

NEW
Slab 13 Sheep Creek Plume agate, Crook Co. OR 5 1/2", thick slab. This location was dug for decades before the current owner shut it down to digging forever. Some white plumes. 50% off sale price appears when you add it to your Paypal cart!

50% OFF! $14.00

YES
Slab 14 Marston Jasper, Ashwood OR

3 3/4" piece, lots of gold and red. This jasper is petrified wood that was totally replaced with jasper, and this is one of a very few that show wispy traced of the tree rings. The owner of the quarry passed away and no more is coming out. This is one of the last pieces I have, and I'm slabbing all of it for myself :)

$20.00

NEW
Slab 15 Pinkeye picture jasper, Owyhees OR 3 3/4" piece, this was dug for a few years and totally wiped out. I poked around in the pit and there isn't even a chip left.

Slab 16 Marston Jasper, Ashwood OR

5 1/2 piece, lots of red with some green, tan and white spots. The owner of the quarry passed away and no more is coming out. This is one of the last pieces I have.

$13.00

YES
Slab 17 Marston Jasper, Ashwood OR 5 1/4" thick slice. This an absolutely bonkers piece of this jasper. It looks like a squashed thunderegg, but it's definitely jasper.

$17.00

NEW
Slab 18 Road to Pony Butte Bed thunderegg, Richardson Ranck, Madras OR 3 1/4" slab, I stumbled on this bed right after the rancher dozed in a new road to the Pony Butte thundreregg bed. It only has these exact colors - cloudy white agate and red bands. There wasn't much there in the first place and I took most of it.

$10.00

NEW
Slab 19 Lily Pad Too jasper, Madras OR 4 1/2" piece, I found this near the Lily Pad jasper area so I got to name it :)

$9.00

YES
Slab 20 Petrified wood, Roger's Mountain OR OR

5" piece, I dug this ages ago before the BLM gated off the road and put up a bunch of no digging signs. Most of it has this creamy exterior and dark brown to almost black center. I've never seen any other wood quite like it.
